Fireplace Started

Lots of workers were out on the building site this morning.....masons, plumber, fireplace mason, excavator, and general contractor. Randy was there but didn't take any photos. We had any early morning city inspection on the masonry. We drove up to the site later in the afternoon and everyone was wrapping things up.

We are hoping that the cement wall work will be done by Monday. Then Mike, the excavator, will need to come in and backfill around the foundation.

This is a good shot of the fireplace. Barry started working on it today. He said he hadn't built a "real" fireplace in quite a while. Most folks just put in a pre-purchased metal chimney and a fireplace insert. We wanted to use soapstone instead of fire brick but it cost too much to ship it from Vermont. We found a supplier in Colorado but he called us too late with the shipping info.....Barry needed the brick today. Oh well, it's all going to turn black eventually.

Another fireplace view.....the chimney will be 30 feet tall.

We have a fireplace inspection tomorrow morning......Bernie from the City Planning Dept. arrives and looks at things for about 5 minutes and says "Okay." So far....we like Bernie.
