I'm a retired educator (teacher/principal) who moved from Northern California to Payson, Arizona in September, 2010.

Breaking Rocks in the Hot Sun

Mike is deep in thought.......checking the plans, measuring and rechecking to make sure it all works.

Randy and Mike spray painted the house lines. Mike will dig trenches along these lines for the footings.
When he started to dig he ran into a bit of rock........darn.......see the smoke coming off the ripper.

George set up the laser to see if the trench was deep enough so that the cement guys can pour the footings.

Close up of Mike.......the best excavator in Arizona......really!

We ran into trouble at 4:30 this afternoon. We needed another piece of equipment to break up the granite. This is a hammer. It works like a jack hammer.

Levi brought the hammer over. He used to play in this area when he was a kid. He attached it to Mike's track hoe.

Then Mike went to work. We hope it will be powerful enough to break up the granite. More with the hammer tomorrow.
